plug in – 1020 Vienna

plug in is an interdisciplinary urban strategy for the revitalization of Vienna’s historically significant Taborstrasse. plug in is a five-year project consisting of an intelligent redesign of five important urban spaces, which integrates urban updating into scheduled programs of street resurfacing, as well as an innovative program of cultural interventions that will provide contemporary art and social attractors for public space in the street.

plug in uses this hardware/software approach as a powerful method for refining the perceived identity of this lively commercial street. The program integrates numerous actors into an on-going process of urban and cultural development. The focus is both local and international: plug in specifically seeks to integrate the area’s own thriving artistic and cultural scene into an existing cultural partnership between Leopoldstadt and Brooklyn.
