Timber Passive House at Mühlweg – 1210 Vienna
Mühlweg was an interdisciplinary pilot project that demonstrated the viability of multi-storey timber construction for residential estates in urban contexts. BAI Bauträger Austria Immobilien GmbH established a wholly-owned subsidiary (KLEA Wohnbau Gesellschaft m.b.H.; Chief Operating Officer: Georg Kogler) in order to develop and realise this seminal forward-looking project.
The project concept encompassed:
- 70 units of multi-storey, municipally subsidised rental housing.
- Massive timber construction,
- Passive house energy standards.
The support of the Demonstration Projects Subsidy Program of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology ‘s “Building of Tomorrow" initiative, allowed this housing estate to use innovative, high-quality materials and exceptional methods of construction.
