mellow_out – 1220 Vienna

mellow_out is a ground-breaking city planning strategy for the aspern+ development zone in Vienna. This limited-term settlement concept has a 15-20 year period of occupation, during which it will bring living, work and leisure together within a garden-like community setting.

mellow_out makes use of an innovative system of massive timber construction. Its modular planning method reduces building costs and promotes serial production, but is highly adaptive: the apartment/atelier units can be flexibly configured to accommodate individual spatial needs and desires.

The informal, middle-density site plan of the row-house settlement places the urban amenities and social networks of the verdant edge of the city. This starter housing is intended to attract young, mobile and independently employed individuals to aspern+; this community of urban pioneers makes the area more attractive for further investment.
