Architect and Urbanist. Born 1961 in Schenectady, NY, USA. 1983 BSME in Mechanical Engineering, University of Rochester (NY); 1990 Masters of Architecture, Harvard University Graduate School of Design. 1998-2004 Assistant Professor, Institute for Architectural Theory, Technical University of Vienna; since 2005 Adjunct Lecturer and Critic for Theory and Design, Institute for Architectural Sciences, Technical University of Vienna. Founded the architectural practice of mark gilbert architektur in 1999, with internationally recognized project realizations in and around Vienna. Since 2007 cooperation with Christian Aulinger. Founding member (together with Christian Aulinger and Georg Kogler) of the interdisciplinary planning office trans_city ZT gmbh, 2009.

Author and editor of numerous books, urban studies and essays on architecture and urbanism, Mark Gilbert is recipient of the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts Award (2004), grantee of the Hochschulejubiläumsfonds der Stadt Wien (2005) and recipient of a primary grant from departure Wirtschaftsförderungsfonds of the city of Vienna (2009). His most recent book is After the Storm: a gentle manifesto for a neighborhood in New Orleans (with Kristian Faschingeder; Schlebrügge.Editor).
